Hi there! My name is Maren (Mar-en) and I am a 20-something running and eating my way through a tiny town in western Minnesota!  I lived the first half of my life in Minneapolis, MN and then moved to Grand Island, NE where my parents still live. I moved to Omaha and went to college where I met the love of my life, Nate!! He got a job last month that moved us to Minnesota, so here we are now! This blog is going to be about my daily rambles, my training plans for half-marathons, and some of my daily eats. Although there is minimal selection for dining out in this town, I LOVE eating out and hopefully I can find some gems while we’re here!

I am a work-out-a-holic! I love to run, lift weights, do yoga, pilates, Turbo Jam! (love you Chalene!!), and anything from Chris Freytag! I supplement all my moves with lots of yummy and interesting eats.

Rock the Parkway 2011

 

I suffered from Acid Reflux for years and years, but instead of doing anything, I just took my pills and continued to eat fried foods and drink beer. After a trip to Ireland in March 2010, I decided to do something about it. I was sick to my stomach for most of the trip and it really put a damper on enjoying my time in that beautiful country! So when I got back home, I vowed to cut out fried foods and beer. And you know what? I don’t take any prescriptions anymore AND I can eat spicy foods basically whenever I want! I do miss fried foods sometimes, but I know that it makes me feel awful and it’s just not worth it to me!

Today, I enjoy mostly whole foods, but I have a serious sweet tooth… for candy, chocolate, cookies, brownies, cake, cupcakes, and pretty much anything else that has sugar in it. I will probably explain my struggles with being emotionally attached to sugar and how I have completely cut it out for Lent. For some reason I can always do it for God, but as soon as Easter comes, you can bet I’ll be walking to Walgreens for all the discounted Reese’s eggs. Oh yea.

So basically this blog is about my life. Not just the eats, not just the exercises, but a variety of things!

  1. I’m glad you started running for sweets. I can’t wait to read about healthy living Minnesota-style. Oh and those Reeses eggs are the BEST. I stock up during easter so I can enjoy them when it’s… not easter 🙂

    I’m so glad I stumbled upon your site! Although I reside in FL now, I am from MN and miss the midwest so much! My husband and I met at college in St. Paul/Mpls! 🙂
