A few things…

Hi everyone! Hope all is well on your side. First things first.

1. A HUGE happy birthday to my great blogger friend Janetha! She is such an inspiration to me!! Hope you have had an amazing day today girl! Stop on over there and give the girl some birthday love!

2. If you haven’t read about Caitlin’s neighbor yet, please read and donate, if possible. What a wonderful community the blog world is. Her site has already raised over $11,000 in just 30 hours! Incredible.

Today has been a great day! It’s was sunny and gorgeous and Nate and I took a long walk along the river. They have built a beautiful trail and we hadn’t seen any of it yet, so it was pretty neat!

Lunch was summer-inspired

These smoothies are stupid good. I’m so glad I got a blender finally. And for only $10! Yea buddy. I’m an amazing bargain shopper…not to toot my own horn or anything πŸ˜‰

Smoothie ingredients:

– 1 cup unsweetened almond milk

– 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder

– 1 cup mixed frozen berries

– 5 ice cubes

– HUGE handful of spinach

– handful of Barbara’s cinnamon puffins cereal

I’ve been eating this for meals a lot lately. I’m so glad the weather is getting nicer!! I LOVE smoothies! They are such an easy way to get fruits and veggies in and it tastes like a treat!

Day 10 – Discuss your first love and your first kiss

My first love was in high school. Ended in misery and I learned A LOT from it.

My first kiss was in 6th grade and the story is so funny. All of our friends were outside my house and the boy and me sat on my couch for what seemed like 30 minutes before he finally reached in, kissed me, and then jumped up, fist-pumped, and ran out the front door. I literally can still picture it and it cracks me up!!! We never kissed again after that and he later wrote me a break-up note with the same loving words as Alfalfa’s letter to Darla in The Little Rascals!! hahaha ohhh to be young again πŸ™‚

Can’t wait for this weekend..ughhh is it Friday yet? It’s supposed to be nice and I plan on spending my time out on the lake!

A Memorial Day in pictures.

Hi all! It’s been a long weekend and I’m totally pooped. I ran 4 miles yesterday for the first time since the Fargo half and it hurt. BAD. My left knee is really bugging me and I’m 99.9% sure it’s my IT Band. So, I’m resting and icing and being lazy.

Nate and I spent the weekend at the lake and I have a few pictures to share.

And that’s that. Happy Memorial Day all. Thank you to all of those who have served in the military to protect our country.

See you soon. xoxo Maren

Hey peeps. I’ve been gone all week for work and don’t feel like doing much. I need to get this 30 day challengeΒ 100 day challenge finished. I’m so lazy.

Day 9 – How you hope your future will be like.

Um, good? Happy? This is a weird-ace question if you ask me. I hope that my life is filled with love and faith and happiness. And maybe a couple kiddos….someday. I already have to take care of two kids..Nate and Lilly are enough work for me right now πŸ˜‰ I hope that I have a career that I love and that I’m close to my family!

Super boring post, eh? How about a picture of my lunch since I managed to play sneaky blogger. We went to this neat place called “Spicy Pie” in downtown Fargo. It’s a pizza place. It was just okay, but the atmosphere was super cool. If I wasn’t with a bunch of colleagues I didn’t really know, I would have taken more pictures, but here’s my food

On the left, bread nuggets. Not sure what they’re really called, but they had way too much garlic…and that’s hard for me!! I LOVE me some garlic. I got green peppers and mushrooms on my pizza. And the slices were huge!! I only ate the one and took the other one with me for Nate to eat later. The nice thing was, the slices are only $2 and $.30 for each topping. Not bad!!

Alright, I’m out. love ya’ll.

Fargo Marathon recap.

Hi friends! hope you had a lovely weekend. Mine has been good overall!

Megan got into town on Thursday night about 1:30, so we chatted for awhile and got to bed about 2. I woke up about 7:30 and started getting things ready to leave for Detroit Lakes and ate a mushroom-shaped pancake

Mushroom-shaped pancake:

– 1/3 cup Whole wheat pancake mix

– 1 scoop vanilla protein powder

– cinnamon

– chia seeds

– obviously too Β much water (oops)

We left for the lake, dropped off the wave runner and headed into Fargo to hit up the expo. We got there about 12:45 and surprisingly, it wasn’t packed at all. It was nice!

The signs say, “Uff-da!”, “Fargo Yea, Youbetcha!”Β and you can see the other one. These are totally Norwegian sayings that my grandma uses all the time haha

The expo was held at the Fargodome which is where NDSU plays. There are tons of concerts and stuff here, too. There were so many vendors here. This was my first legit expo and I thought they did a flawless job!! Everything was spaced out and there were volunteers all over helping you where to go. Meg and I picked up our bibs and then walked around to see all the cool vendors. Adidas was the sponsor brand, so Scheels had TONS of adidas gear. They had an entire section blocked off for their “booth”. We picked up some free-bees of course, and we each picked up a shirt…mine’s in the wash right now or else I would have a picture for you. Megan’s was cooler though, it said: “Will run for beer” haha! Mine was pink and said 13.1 with a heart around it. In the heart, it says, “Miles and miles” a bunch of times.

After we left the expo, we headed to my grandma’s and made dinner. I didn’t take any pictures, sorry. Just imagine, ww spaghetti, grilled chicken and broccoli. Yum. We got our stuff together and got our butts in bed around 10:30.

Saturday morning I woke up around 5:45, got dressed, tried to eat some oatmeal, but it made me want to barf. Does oatmeal ever do that to you? I guess I just have to be in the mood for it because, ughh, it was disgusting. So I threw it away and ate a clif bar instead. Probably not a good idea, but oh well. I had plenty of time to digest my food since our run didn’t start until 8:30.

Meg set the camera for 2 seconds so she barely made it in the picture! haha and she looks totally calm and I’m all excited. Guess I didn’t know what was to come later in the morning…

They had a shuttle service that went from the mall to the Fargodome, which was super nice except that they only had buses going until 7, and our race didn’t start until 8:30. We got to the mall about 6:45 and got right on a bus. There were no lines at all! It was so nice to just be able to hop right on the bus! We got to the dome about 15 minutes later and had LOTS of time to spare. The 10k started at 7, so we got to see a bunch of the runners come in! Around 8, we got up and started heading outside to the starting line. We stepped in line for the porta potties and then got in line. The race ended up started at 8:40 because of a delay with the marathoners.

Here we are waiting. I’m tired.

I don’t really want to talk much about the race because it absolutely sucked. It was ridiculously muggy weather and I just wasn’t feeling good at all. I don’t really want to be whiny, so I’ll keep it short. We saw my uncle at mile 3 because his band was playing, so we threw our jackets to him! And my t-shirt was off by mile 4. I was so. dang. hot. I’ve been running in 40 degree weather for ALL of my long runs, so 68 and humid was not cool. I was feeling really good around mile 6 so I picked up the pace a little bit. Then I hit the dreaded wall. At mile 9. It was like I couldn’t even move. I was taking my shot blocks, I was drinking water at every station, but it was just making me feel worse. I had gone ahead of my sister around mile 6 and she caught up to me and passed me around mile 11 when I started walking. I kept telling myself I wouldn’t walk, but I had to. When Megan passed me, I started running with her, but I had to stop again. I walked for probably a minute, or so, and then kept pushin. I had about a mile to go and was passing a chick that was walking, so I said, “Good job! You can do it, we’re almost done!!!” and she started running again, so I ran with her almost to the end when she picked it up and went ahead. She had done the full marathon in Fargo before and the half, I think. So, she knew exactly when she could pick it up. We couldn’t see the finish line, since it was inside, so I wasn’t sure when I could pick it up. I sprinted as hard as I could to the end. My final time was 1:58:06. Two and a half minutes slower than KC. For the conditions, I’m pretty pleased with the time, but man am I sore.

I wasn’t sore at all after KC, but I’ve got huge blisters and I’m definitely going to lose a toenail!! It’s so disgusting! Also, my left knee is pretty sore.

We did it! Don’t mind me in my sports bra. And I was a sweaty mess. Oh, and I look orange. Sweet life.

After the race, we went back to my grandma’s and got showered. We pretty much didn’t eat anything until dinner. We both just weren’t hungry at all. We did chug lots of water though.

Nate has been craving Buffalo Wild Wings for soooo long, so we went there. I didn’t even really care where we went. I wasn’t planning on eating anything healthy, anyway. I got nachos. They are like the worst thing on the menu and I didn’t even care.

They were pretty delish. And this picture is after I was done eating! They were huge! Nate got wings, of course, and so did Meg. I was pretty full, but I’m never too full for dessert, so we headed to the new fro yo place in town called Tutti Frutti!

Here’s mine: I got almond, peanut butter, and chocolate fro-yo and I got some butter finger, brownie, a pb cup, a few worms, and some graham cracker on top!

yummmmmmm… It was so delicious. The best fro yo I’ve EVER had. Hands down.

Here’s Nate’s: All candy haha

and Megan’s…you can’t even see her froyo πŸ™‚

Ahh that makes me want to go back again!

This morning my grandma made us breakfast

Eggs with lots of cheese, pb toast and OJ. Breakfast of champions baby.

After breakfast, Nate and I got our stuff together and headed home.

Overall, this race was a good experience for me. I needed to have a crappy race, so I know that I can get through it! The race was put together beautifully. There were TONS of bands playing all along the course, lots of water stations, porta potty’s, and best of all, supporters. We were generally running through neighborhoods and the crowd support was incredible! There wasn’t a single spot where there wasn’t people yelling and cheering. It was pretty cool.

Also, this race practically doubled in size in one year. I think there were over 18,000 finishers! And everything ran so smooth. I am incredibly impressed with the race director and all the volunteers!! Everyone did a GREAT job putting this race together and I can’t wait to race it again next year! Hopefully, it goes a little better πŸ˜‰

Well this post is already a novel, so I’m out. Hope you enjoyed reading. If you’re from around here and want to be involved in a HUGE race with a small-town atmosphere, this is the one to do.

Have a great night. Maren

The night before the night before

Hey friends!!! It’s almost time!!! My piriformis issue is feeling MUCH better. You all must be praying for me! (if anyone is even reading?! haha) I’ve been praying like crazy and remembering to trust the Lord and I didn’t have any pain all day today! I still am having side aches, but I chugged water all day and I’m drinking tea right now. Trying super hard to say extra hydrated!! I also had 3 1/2 pieces of veggie pizza for dinner. Carb loading again haha!! I’m pretty much all packed for Fargo

….since Megan and I are leaving super early in the morning. She is on her way now and has been driving through rain almost the entire time. Poor thing!

Anyway, think about me while I’m running through torrential downpour during the race. Not exactly looking forward to it! I’ve been in denial about the weather, but since I had to pack tonight, I figured I better figure out what the weather is going to be like. BOO! I think Bree knows how I feel!

30 Day Challenge Day 8 – A moment you felt most satisfied with your life.

This is VERY appropriate. The moment I felt most satisfied with my life was the day I crossed the finish line of my first half-marathon. I was so happy, I called Nate right away and just broke down. It was something I had worked soΒ hard for and had tried so many other times to finish, that I was overwhelmed with emotion. It was such a great feeling to finish!!

Well, there you have it. Simple. I think I’ll be pretty pumped if I finish strong on Saturday, too. With the crappy weather and the injuries I’ve been dealing with, my nerves are pretty out of control!

I’ll be back after the race. Have a good weekend!

xoxo, Maren

It’s almost time.

Hi friends!! How is your Wednesday going? It’s super gorgeous here AGAIN. No complaints here…especially because everyone is telling me it’s going to rain all weekend. I’m refusing to look at the weather. I’m in total denial that it’s going to rain during the Fargo Half Marathon. There are a number of other reasons I’m concerned with this race.

1. my piriformis is super ticked off at me.

2. I’ve had a side stitch for over 24 hours.

3. I’m physically and mentally drained.

4. I’m a big baby.

I was SO pumped about Rock the Parkway! And I’m dreading this race! I think it’s because I set my standards pretty high. When I ran in KC, I wanted to run under 2 hours and I wasn’t going to be upset if I didn’t do it. I would have still been happy whether I finished under 2 or not. Since I ran it in 1:55, I want to beat that time and I’m going to be so upset if I don’t! In the last few weeks, I’ve really seen an improvement in my pace, but with my piriformis inflamed, I’m so scared I’m not going to be able to run. I have been doing a serious amount of praying!! I always get a Bible verse in my e-mail everyday and Monday’s said this, “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again – my Savior and my God!” -Psalms 42:11. Could that have been anymore appropriate? Probably not. So, I’ve just been trusting that the Lord knows what He’s doing and to stop worrying so much. It’s hard, but I’m working on it.

So, the race is Saturday morning and my sissy is coming up tomorrow! She is bringing the jet ski that Nate and I bought (HOLLA!!!) and we are taking it to the lake Friday morning, then heading to the expo! I’ll talk more about all that good stuff later.

When I got home from work today, I decided to go for an easy 3 miler. I made it through with no pain!! But I’m a little tight now. I will definitely be foam rolling a lot tonight…and looking forward to an elbow massage from my personal physical therapist πŸ˜‰ (yes that’s you meg, hehe).

When I got back, Nate was starting dinner!! So, I got the vacuum out and he decided that would be more fun

Nate browned the turkey while I took over the stove duties

Triple stove action. I feel like a chef πŸ˜‰

Finished product:

Nate’s plate: WW Cheese tortellini with turkey marinara sauce and sauteed green beans

My plate: WW Cheese tortellini with turkey pesto sauce and sauteed green beans

Guess I’m begining to carb load for the race haha! πŸ™‚ This meal was soooo good. I LOVE pesto and I love cheese tortellini. I used to work at an Italian restaurant and I would get it all the time! That’s when I’d never heard of saturated fat. I would top it off with extra alfredo sauce! haha It was delicious πŸ˜‰

We also got the guest bedroom all ready for Megan to get here! I promised I’d put a couple pictures up of the finished product. I need to put a few more things on the wall, but it’s getting there. It’s the same color as the walls in the main bedroom, but it looks so much different!

Nate and I decided to start on this puzzle, so I better get after it!

It’s 1000 pieces and I have no patience. Should be interesting!!!

Hope you have a great night, see you tomorrow peeps!

xoxo, Maren

Weekend recap.

Posted on

Hi everyone!! First of all, I want to congratulation my girl Abby!!! on completing the Pittsburgh Marathon this morning!!! While I was being lazy, she was dominating 26.2 miles! You go girl! So proud! πŸ™‚

I had an interesting/fun weekend. Friday night I made chicken stirfry. It was delish and fresh. I haven’t had it in sooo long, so we were both craving it

I was in bed by 10. I’m kind of a loser like that, but I was so tired from my first week of work! Saturday morning Nate left early to go bow fishing. Gross. I do eat some meat, but I can’t stand seeing it right after it’s been killed!! But I’m going to show you a picture anyway

I was going to hit the road right away for my 12 miler, but decided to eat breakfast instead. Well, that was probably a mistake because my piriformis was killingΒ me by the time I was ready to run. I made it 8/10 of a mile. Pathetic. I hate this dumb dumb “syndrome”. It’s such a pain!!! (Literally). So, I ran/walked back home and headed to the gym. I did 60 min on the elliptical and 45 on the bike. I figured thats about what it would take me to run 12, so that’s what I did. It was pretty boring, but it was painless, so that was my only option. Afterwards, I came home and made Mama Pea’s con cookies, but I had to change some things. I followed her recipe exactly except I used Kashi Honey Sunshine cereal instead of rice cereal. Definitely not as good, but it worked.

The dough:

the balls:

and the finished product:

Then Nate wanted me to take a picture of him and Lilly. Sorry it’s blurry.

We were losers again on Saturday night. We watched 27 dresses, then Hitch. We actually stayed up later than normal…like 11:30.

Nate woke me up EARLY this morning to get started on painting! We finished the main bedroom and the guest bedroom today. It looks sooo nice.

We painted the back wall a color called “rustic” and the rest of the walls are a warm beige color. Nate started painting the beige and it literally looked peach. I about died. We had to go back to Fleet Farm to change the color because it was sooo ugly! This color is much better. We painted the spare bedroom the same beige color, but we haven’t put the room back together yet, so I didn’t take a picture. I’ll get one up one of these days…maybe.

Nate made dinner tonight. Turkey burgers and fresh green beans I picked up at a stand down the street yesterday. They were absolutely delicious

Sooo… onto the challenge. I’m so slow at this…umm pretty much slow at everything actually.

Day 7 – Your zodiac sign and if you think it fits

Well, I’m a pisces and that’s about all I know, so I had to google what it means.

Pisces is often associated with music, dance, drama and other forms of art, as these can give a sense that there is something beyond life lived at the simply human level, and can open up people’s awareness to a richer reality than that lived in day to day living. Alcohol and drugs can also provide awareness of another dimension, but used unwisely, they are regressive rather than progressive, and represent an escape to the womb rather than an advance to a richer life infused with wealth from a spiritual dimension.. (source).

Well, that’s interesting! I like to think I can sing. I’m a terrible “actress”. Like if I try to tell a fib or act like I don’t know where something is, I always end up laughing. I’m the worst liar ever! But I was a dancer for years and years. Also, drugs and alcohol are not a problem for me and I don’t use them “unwisely”! haha interesting stuff!

Well, hope you all had an awesome weekend! Can’t believe it’s already over….and it’s officially half-marathon week!!!! I am so nervous already with this injury I haven’t been able to run at all, so I’m super nervous. I know the power of God and I will definitely be doing a TON of praying…not that I don’t already. I just really hope I can run this race..and finish! It might take the help of ibuprofen, but it may be the only way I can get through it. Otherwise, this time off will hopefully help me start feeling better!

xoxo, Maren
